Toledo's Glass City Center, formerly Seagate Centre, first opened in 1987 and has hosted hundreds of national and regional conventions, trade shows, athletic competitions, expos, fundraisers and weddings.
In 2020, the transformative $70 million expansion and renovation began. It was renamed the Glass City Center to pay homage to Toledo's recognition as the "glass capital of the world". The entire facility has been renovated, upgraded and reimagined with advanced technology throughout. The expansion added on the new 16,000 sq.ft Grand Ballroom which opened in late August 2022.
Some History: Toledo started building its first convention center, Seagate Centre, in 1985 while being completed in 1987 and opened March 27. The name due to the St. Lawrence Seaway and Toledo's "Gateway to the Sea". Toledo natives Danny Thomas, Teresa Brewer, and Jamie Farr were a part of the original dedication.
